Opposition reminded not to politicise recent flood

KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Youth led by its chairman, Sih Hua Tong had reminded the Opposition parties (DAP and PKR) not to politicise the recent flood.
Sih gave this reminder at a press conference here yesterday.
He added that the Opposition parties did not implement any action plans during the recent flood but just attacked SUPP.
“It seems that these YBs from the opposition just know how to talk but do nothing. For instance, in Kuching here, we have four Opposition State Assembly representatives and a Member of Parliament who can help by mobilising thousands of people to raise fund through their headquarters, but they did not do anything,” he said.
He also urged them to put aside their political differences and help the people affected by the flood.
Sih said SUPP Youth would always stay firm in its fight against the opposition in the next election, but for now they would continue to do implement projects which are beneficial to the grass roots.
He believed that the people know what SUPP is doing and they also know the true story.
During the recent flood, SUPP Youth had been involved in flood relief operations and helping victims in the affected areas.
“We will continue to help by helping to rebuild and cleaning homes affected by the flood,” he added.

Sih said losses were incurred during the recent flood, especially those preparing for the Chinese New Year celebrations.
“Our task is hindered by the opposition leaders attacking us. Some of our volunteers felt demoralised by remarks made by opposition leaders. People can see what good SUPP had done to help, especially those in need,” he said.
On the issue of parents complaining that their children’s schooling was affected as the Chung Hua No 4 school was used as a flood relief centre, Sih said he felt doubtful whether it was the parents complaining or a certain DAP politician.
“He should know that a politician is a leader and priority must be given during disaster. It seems that his heart is not with the people,” Sih said.
He also felt that a SUPP leader should not be blamed for telling the wrong weather forecast as no one can determine the weather accurately.
“SUPP Youth felt very disappointed with the opposition because during this difficult time, lives are at stake and they should not blame others. As they have been given the mandate by the people, I wish to advise them to be action oriented in time of disaster.
“They should tackle problems, not create a crisis. Be responsible leaders, go back to the people who gave them the mandate,” Sih said.
SUPP Youth would also like to urge the various community associations to assist in spreading the weather forecast to the public so that they would be more aware of it and be ready to face any
eventualities.
