KUCHING: Early birds will get their tax rebates within five days if they file their returns online long before the submission deadline.
Speaking to The Borneo Post, a source at the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) said that e-filing early birds are likely to get their tax rebates fast as long as the information they send in are in order.
This is because the resultant reduction of logistics and paperwork for LHDN as well as the low volume of early submissions will allow the staff to quickly process them.
Any delay in refund would indicate that LHDN may require individual e-filers to clarify certain things.
“Everybody can use e-filing. We especially encourage new taxpayers to file online. First time users will need to go to the nearest LHDN branch and get a PIN to log into the system for the first time,” said the source.
The source said that filing using the old method takes time because the forms
need to be sent to Kuala Lumpur.
“E-filing will immediately put your information into the system. It can be processed immediately and we’ll try to make sure you get your rebate via electronic bank transfer in five days,” he explained.
The source also said by filing online, taxpayers can get immediate confirmation that their submissions have been received.
“We don’t send acknowledgement receipts for hard copy forms sent to the office.
“The only way to be sure we received it is to bring it over yourself,” he said.
The e-filing system, which began in 2004, will be open for submissions the first week of March.
